Many cultures do not use diapers. They teach their babies to
give a signal.

coined by author Ingrid Bauer, author of Diaper Free! The Gentle
Wisdom of Natural Infant Hygiene
to define an ancient, natural child care practice for contemporary
parents. Her book and website describe a gentle, compassionate and
practical way to care for a baby's elimination needs from infancy,
with or without diapers.

my son stopped wearing diapers consistently when he was four
months old. They sometimes assume this means he simply relieved
himself wherever, whenever, while I cleaned up after him. They
often find it hard to believe that he was aware of his need to
eliminate and that we were able to communicate about it long
