Ted
Greiner's Breastfeeding Website
Dr. Ted Greiner is well-qualified to discuss aspects of
breastfeeding that are not usually considered on other
breastfeeding sites. For over twenty years he has made
significant contributions to our knowledge and appreciation of
breastfeeding issues, including breastfeeding rights for working
women, the relationship between maternal nutrition and
breastfeeding, and the development of breastfeeding programs on
the community level.
His early publications established the first scientific
evidence that commercial marketing of baby foods had a negative
influence on how women feed their babies. Though an American, he
has lived for many years in Sweden, where he is a full-time
consultant and advisor to student researchers. With a background
in nutrition and communication, and with international
interests, Dr. Greiner sees breastfeeding as a worldwide health
issue.
His articles on the web site, presented in five languages,
cover the areas of Women at Work, Basic Issues,
Health and Nutritional Aspects, HIV, and
Breastfeeding Promotion, and consider both the
physical and emotional welfare of babies and young children.
"Breastfeeding, the Best Investment", and "How
Can We Increase the Father's Involvement in Child Care?"
are among the many well-written and well-documented papers
presented here.
The art gallery is lovely, with paintings, stamps, statues,
and handicrafts portraying breastfeeding mothers and children.
The site also includes a guest book, and Dr. Greiner's
supportive and informative responses to some of the issues
raised there.
This attractive web site is one of the most illuminating
resources available today on this important topic. In the
introduction, Dr. Greiner urges us to "make the world a
place where breastfeeding works better for mothers and
babies." His own work is a significant factor in that
effort.
