Sarah Buckley is an Australian family
physician, mother of four, widely published writer, and the author
of Gentle Birth, Gentle Mothering: The wisdom and science of
gentle choices in pregnancy, birth, and parenting. Her website
provides both a scientific and a personal view of pregnancy,
birth, and parenting.
Current articles cover attachment parenting,
birth, labor, birth choices, ultrasound concerns, and Elimination
Communication. The site also includes a blog, with archives back
to August 2005; a bookshop, Sarah's speaking schedule, a
subscription page for a future newsletter, and a well-selected
list of related resources. A section about her new book includes a
video interview, excerpts, and reviews.
"I was excited to discover that many
gentle birth and parenting practices that I had instinctively
chosen – for example homebirth, carrying my baby, and child-led
breastfeeding – were well supported by evidence from science,
anthropology, psychology, and evolutionary medicine. I felt
strongly that parents deserve to know this, so that they can
distinguish cultural disapproval from genuine risks when they
evaluate birth and parenting choices."
